New Highfields Logo

You may have already spotted (and if you're reading this, you definitely have) that Highfields has a new logo for the start of the new decade. Some have described it as 'the cookie' or 'the biscuit' but we hope it will prove to be a distinctive symbol to help people identify our church and connect our various ministries together.

Why Change It?

Of course, Highfields already had a logo before 2010 which begs the question: why change it?

Well it certainly hasn't happened overnight. The new logo is the product of more than a year of work, which includes consultation, submission of ideas and then several months of work to come up with the final design. It was all done, free of charge, by Highfields regulars.

Two Years Ago

Almost two years ago, Rowland Hughes asked a number of church members what they thought of the existing church logo - a very detailed pen sketch of the Monthermer Road building with the word 'Highfields' written across it. The feedback threw up the following valid criticisms:

You could not identify Highfields as a church from the logo. Conceivably Highfields could be a library or community centre.
The logo conveyed the impression that Highfields was a building rather than a body of Christian people.
The logo did not feature a cross.

In addition, the publicity team felt the design was not very contemporary or suited to modern media such as video and the internet.

Concerns Addressed

We hope the new logo addresses these concerns. The word 'Church' is now part of the logo and the 'H' in the symbol subtly incorporates a cross. The logo is distinctive and flexible and we pray it will help people to identify Highfields, whether receiving an invitation through their door in Cathays or watching a sermon from our website on the other side of the world.
