Serving with Operation Mobilization on MV Logos Hope from 2015 to 2017

Dyfan Graves

I was a crewmember on OM Ships’ Logos Hope, a mission ship that reaches people in port cities around the world, with the aim to share the good news of Jesus Christ with everyone they meet, and to mobilize the local churches into missions. This is achieved through the motto ‘Bringing Knowledge, help and hope’. This shows the work we did, through educational ministries, help ministries and in all we did, to bring hope in Jesus to people. I worked in the deck department on the ship, as a seaman, and outside of this I did various forms of ministry including clowning, street evangelism and being hospitable on the visitors experience deck.

DGLogos1While serving on Logos Hope, you would expect, being a mission partner would mean having lots of flash-bang stories and big profound lessons from God. However the main things I’ve learnt have been the simple things. While I do have stories of changed lives, stories showcasing the power of prayer, stories of repentance and encouragements, stories of people impacted by an encounter with the God of grace through interacting with us – it is the simple things that God wanted to teach me. In Ghana we went on a ministry day to a beach, and though I did have some good conversations it could have gone a DGLogos4whole lot better if we did everything in prayer, and with an attitude of sacrifice – willing to go uncomfortable for God. In contract, when I did outreach with a local church in rural Guyana, we did literally everything in prayer. Consequently God did more through us than if we didn’t. You can pray too – the purpose of prayer, and the extent that God uses it both to grow us and impact others is far greater than we often give it credit for. Why not join me in prayer, for the work I do on the ship, for the wider ministry of the ship, and for all those who serve as mission partners. I can say with conviction that those prayers do get answered!
