Ready for Heaven

The Bristol Women’s Conference will be held on Saturday 3rd March.

There is an early bird price of £15 for those who book before the end of January. Information is online at: - bristolwomensconference.org

If you would like to travel with others, please speak to Elspeth.

Main Speaker

Liz Cox works as the Minister for Women and Community at St Giles’ Church, Derby. She  moved to Derby from Sydney Australia in 2004 with her husband David and their three  children, Rachel, Olivia and Jordan, who were 13, 11 and 7 at the time. Since then their daughters have both married and they recently were blessed with twin grandchildren: Toby & Stephanie.

Liz likes drinking tea, watching films and series, cooking, and eating out. Most of all she enjoys talking, and especially talking about the Bible. Liz is looking forward to teaching 1 Thessalonians, which focuses on Jesus’ return and being sure we’re ready for heaven. Thinking about that together will be a great antidote to the uncertainty around us in the world today.

Seminars

Alongside the main talks there are two seminar slots during the day – one in the morning, one in the afternoon. Below are the options available this year – all are single standalone sessions. You will need to select your top 4 choices of seminar (or afternoon Time Out) at the time of booking. We try to allocate your top 2 choices while spaces are available.

1. Yoga: A Christian Perspective

Exercise, relaxation, enlightenment – yoga offers our world an apparent ‘cure-all’. As Christians however we are called to be discerning. This will be an opportunity to ask questions and to explore yoga from a Christian perspective.

2. Encouraging One Another

The New Testament talks again and again about encouraging each other, and we want to. But then reality hits and we’re not so sure what it means! Come and explore what Biblical encouragement actually is, and how we can learn to do it well in our contexts.

3. The Lost Art of Lament

The Old Testament is full of Psalms and examples of believers pouring their hearts out to God in lament, yet this note is rarely struck in Christian music ministry today. This seminar hopes to help you discover this lost art.

4. A Joyful Sound

A relaxed opportunity to learn some new songs in a music workshop and sing some old favourites.

5. Heaven

What can we expect when we die? What will heaven be like? What we can and can’t know from the Bible.

6. Dying well – living with hope in the face of death

In this session we will be thinking through how knowing Jesus gives us hope in the face of death, how our culture challenges this hope, and how with Jesus’ help we can enter into other’s suffering in a way that honours our King.

7. Is It Supposed To Be This Hard?

Church, family, friendships, work, ministry – lots of duty, not much success? What is God’s agenda for our lives and ministry in difficult circumstances? This seminar will be an honest look at finding hope and encouragement, and just keeping on going…

8. Raising Teens

The teenage years are made up of 2557 days, but will they bring delight or dread?! In this seminar we’ll consider the changes and challenges of these years for teenagers and those close to them, and how the gospel of grace might transform our expectations and experiences.

9. Are We All Omnigender Now?

The pace of change brought on by the gender debate can be bewildering. Are we free to choose our own ‘gender’? What about children who say they are ‘in the wrong body’? Come and think through a Christian response to transgender issues.

10. The Heart of Forgiveness

A chance to explore how a growing understanding of God’s forgiveness can enable us to be sacrificial, generous forgivers, even if it seems impossible.

11. Bible Tools for Digging Deeper: Context

Come and explore how getting the situation and context of a New Testament letter transforms how we can understand and apply this part of God’s Word.

12. Retirement: A Biblical Perspective on the Third Age

Whether you are looking ahead to retirement, or have already embarked on this new phase of life, do come and share your experiences and discover how the Bible can equip and encourage us to face whatever may lie ahead.

13. Are the Gospel Accounts in Conflict?

Have you ever read accounts from different Gospels and been confused how they seem to contradict each other? This seminar will look at our attitude to God’s Word when we come up against difficult passages, and how God can use them to strengthen our trust in Him.

14. Spicing Up Your Spiritual Life

Rediscover the joy of spending more time with your Father: hearing what he has to say to you; the delight of prayer; the brilliance of praise. An interactive workshop exploring ways to be more adventurous, creative and bold.

15. Time Out / Craft / Bookstall

Spend the afternoon seminar session in the café, browsing the bookstall, doing some biblically-themed craft or taking time out to reflect / pray.

Bookings

Tickets are on sale from 1st November. In an effort to reduce the last minute rush for tickets there is an EARLY BIRD PRICE of £15.00 per person (£10.00 concessions for students, pensioners) for bookings before 31 January. The ticket prices will increase to £20 (£15 concessions) from 1st February (see website for details). The organisers do not want price to be a barrier for anyone, so if the increased February prices pose a problem for you, please get in touch with them.
